Awakening

"Long before the awakening of thought on earth, manifestations of cosmic energy must have been produced which have no parallel today."

Viewpoint Gallery Portfolio Program

Here's some information from the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center about their Portfolio Program:

Viewpoint features over 70 photographers through its in-gallery portfolio program. Many may be viewed on the web site under Portfolio Drawer Prints. A large number of Viewpoint's portfolio artists are well known within the world of photography, and are highly collectable with images sold in galleries throughout the country.

Several times a year, a private reception will be presented featuring a selection of portfolio photographers. Portfolio artists are encouraged to invite professional contacts, family and friends to the event. Viewpoint will reach out to community collectors, galleries and other professionals in the visual arts to enhance the understanding and exposure of Viewpoint's portfolio program.

Please note, all portfolio images are available for purchase and private showings may be arranged at any time during regular gallery hours upon request.

I've participated in the Portfolio Program at Viewpoint for the past 3 years. I recently added 10 new archival pigment prints to my portfolio drawer. If you’re interested in seeing fine art prints up closeit really is a completely different experience than viewing images on a screendrop by Viewpoint and have a look. My prints are located in portfolio drawer number C-14.

You are also invited to attend one of the upcoming Portfolio Receptions at Viewpoint:

West Coast, Best Coast

Storm Clouds Over Oak Copse

I was pleased to learn that my print Storm Clouds Over Oak Copse was accepted into the West Coast, Best Coast exhibition at Blue Line Arts in Roseville. Following is the show description from the gallery:

Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and digital works unite to celebrate the best that the west coast and California have to offer. Artists works will depict their favorite aspects of the western most states and why they love calling the west coast home. As a California-based gallery, this exhibition highlights the artists and elements that make this the "best coast".

Blue Line Gallery
405 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA
Exhibition Dates: March 4, 2016 - April 2, 2016
Artists' Reception: Saturday, March 19, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Should I go to Tibet?

Mahany Open Space

"So I’m not thinking, “I’ll find something magical to photograph” which is what so many photographers do. I get so many people on workshops who say, “Where should I go to photograph? Should I go to Tibet? Should I go to Peru?” Why? What do you know about Peru or Tibet? Let somebody who lives there photograph it; there are enough photographers all over the world for that.

"There are a lot of reasons why I photograph around myself and one of them is because I believe people should photograph what they know about. I also believe why go anywhere else. What would I know about Tibet if I went there? What could you photograph? Just the exotic. You’ll end up with National Geographic type photographs. I don’t like that genre, they don’t tell you anything, they are just pretty pictures, they are really so superficial."
